Aloha! We are proud to introduce you to our practice, Hawaii Endodontics. We are a modern dental practice dedicated to advanced and specialized endodontic care. Our office utilizes the latest innovations in endodontics including microscopes, ultrasonics, and CBCT 3D imaging to provide the best root canal therapy possible. Hawaii Endodontics has been dedicated to serving our community since 2009. Our Oahu locations include Honolulu, Pearlridge, and Kailua.
One root canal treatment will address most patient cases and will last as long as other natural teeth. Some will occasionally need a second treatment. The overwhelming reason why your original root canal procedure may need to be retreated is because of persistent bacteria within the tooth. The following are potential causes for persistent bacteria inside the tooth:
The permanent restoration was not placed in a timely fashion, which re-contaminated the tooth due to leakage from saliva.
The natural tooth structure became decayed and allowed communication of bacteria with the root canal system.
Previously undetected canal space was not originally treated.
Previously treated canal space was not cleaned sufficiently.
Our team of endodontists at Hawaii Endodontics can determine if retreatment is necessary and conveniently render this service for you at our Honolulu, HI; Kailua, HI; and Pearlridge, HI locations.
Fractures or cracks in a tooth initiate as a direct result from forces placed on a tooth. This can be from normal eating or habits such as excessive grinding or clenching. There are many types of fractures - from superficial minor craze lines to deep cracks rendering the tooth non-salvageable. Patients who have such pathology may experience pain while chewing with or without temperature sensitivity. Sometimes patients may experience no pain at all. In any event, it will require accurate diagnostic skills in order to determine if your cracked tooth can be saved based on the extent of the fracture.

Orthodontics, also known as dentofacial orthopedics, is a specialized branch of dentistry that concentrates on identifying, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities.
An orthodontist is a dental specialist who has received two to three years of additional training and experience. Dr. Aimee Kim is able to straighten teeth, correct misaligned jaw structure, and improve the function of your smile.
If you want to improve the look and feel of your smile, then any age can be a great time to see the orthodontist. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first visit an orthodontist around the age of seven; however, orthodontic treatment is not exclusive to children and teens. About one in every five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. (Dr. Aimee Kim has even improved the smiles of patients in their 80s!) Whether you’re considering treatment for yourself or for a child, any age is a good time to visit the orthodontist.
• A more attractive smile
• Better function of the teeth
• Possible increase in self-confidence
• Increased ability to clean the teeth
• Improved force distribution and wear patterns of the teeth
• Better long-term health of teeth and gums
• Permanent teeth guided into more favorable positions
• Reduced risk of injury to protruding front teeth
• Aid in optimizing other dental treatments
Treatment times vary on a case-by-case basis, but the average time is 12-24 months. Actual treatment time can be affected by rate of growth and severity of the necessary correction. Treatment length is also dependent upon patient compliance. Maintaining good oral hygiene and keeping regular appointments are important in keeping treatment time on schedule.
